MAINTENANCE
LIGHTING
When preparing to set up a saltwater aquarium, you should first consider what you plan on having in your aquarium before deciding on lighting. Keep in mind that while the tank is cycling, you won't need your lights anyways.
My experience is that when you schedule a regular photo period during a tank that is cycling, the nutrient-rich water and the intensity of the lights can cause an explosion of nuisance algae. The period of time that you will invest into cycling your aquarium should give you plenty of time to save for and decide on the proper lights for your setup. STANDARD LIGHTS - fish only systems.
COMPACT FLOURESCENT LIGHTS - fish only, softies, lps, zoanthids, some clams, limited sps.
VHO LIGHTS - fish only, softies, lps, zoanthids, some clams, limited sps.
T-5 LIGHTS - fish only, softies, lps, zoanthids, some clams, limited sps.
METAL HALIDES - With the proper placement of corals and clams, there are otherwise no limits as to what you can keep with these lights!
